Frequently Asked Questions

Is an Adjustment painful?

Although each patient reacts differently, the procedure is rarely painful. It can cause a variety of reactions from temporary soreness to a sense of relief and well-being and deep relaxation. There may be no change at all in some cases. All reactions are normal and expected. The most important thing is for you to communicate the results of your care to your chiropractor.

What happens on my first visit?

Once you have arrived to the office at your scheduled time (walk-in appointments are also welcome), you will be asked to fill out forms that make us familiar with your needs. The doctor will then perform a comprehensive examination to determine whether your condition would benefit from chiropractic care or not.  X-rays are occasionally necessary depending on your mechanism of injury.  If it is deemed that you could benefit from care, deep tissue massage therapy can be utilized to further help relax the muscles and promote healing to damaged tissues.  Following the exam, you will schedule a follow-up visit where the doctor will review your case and prescribe your care plan, the plan of action that will get you on your way to a healthier, more effective life.

How long can I expect to be under Chiropractic Care?

How long and how often you see a chiropractor will depend on several factors: the severity of you condition or injury, your age, physical condition, previous history of accidents or surgeries, occupational requirements and how well you adhere to your treatment program.  Relief of pain usually happens quickly (2-6 weeks), though stabilizing your condition may take longer.  This will be covered by your doctor before you start treatment.

How does chiropractic benefit activity during sports?

Spinal injuries can restrict range of motion, reduce strength, slow reflexes, shorten endurance, and decrease performance. Chiropractic care for these types of injuries has become increasingly popular.  Most professional sports teams, Olympic trainers, and competitive athletes are employing chiropractic doctors - because they demand results.  Whether you play rugby, golf, tennis, ride bicycles, or go bowling, the best treatment for sports injuries is prevention.  Chiropractic involves keeping your body at its peak ability to perform with consistent stretching and early chiropractic care before a symptom becomes a problem.

Why do people go to chiropractors?

There are four main reasons people seek chiropractic care. They are

To allow their bodies to work at maximal efficiency/potential. These are the patients that have grasped the idea that the body is self-regulating and self-healing and understand that chiropractic adjustments contribute to the efficacy of the bodies systems to maintain internal balance.

To prevent dis-ease and nip symptoms in the bud. This patient understands that by keeping the body free of subluxation (see the next section), the body is better equipped to battle the constant physical, chemical, microbial, and emotional stresses from our daily environment.

To treat acute musculoskeletal (muscle and joint) pains and injuries. This person has experienced some kind of physical trauma, causing pain primarily. This patient should be aware that physical trauma left un-cared for leads to degeneration and dysfunction.

When should I see a Chiropractor?

The first day you are on the planet earth. Birth, if you think about it, is the first physically traumatic experience of our lifetime. This trauma affects everything following that event and determines how you will grow, learn, and live. Chiropractic care for infants is an important part of having your baby grow up healthy and fully able to adapt to the world. Many foundations, including the American Pregnancy Foundation, endorse pediatric and neonatal chiropractic care.

As we age, our bodies adapt to our lifestyles. This stems from an early age. We know all about growing pains and, later in life, the risk of degeneration. It’s never too late to start getting care. Chiropractic helps with the physical integration of the growth process in adolescents and slows down the degenerative process initiated by major and minor traumas.

Preventative health care and/or the treatment of an injury are also good motivators to seek chiropractic care. Chiropractors focus on wellness without the use of over the counter or prescribed drugs and surgery and base care protocols on maintaining the structural alignment of the spine and extremities to allow the nerve system to be fully functioning.

Do I have to get x-rays?

The doctor will do a full exam and determine after the exam whether or not you will need to have x-rays taken.

How much does an office visit cost?

Our rates are very comparable to those of other chiropractors in the area. We also have payment schedules to make getting the care you need more affordable for you and your family.

How long has the chiropractor been in business?

Dr. Gallagher has been in business for approximately a year. Most of her experience was gained growing up in a chiropractic environment, watching and learning as her father cared for patients.

What technique does the doctor use?

Dr. Gallagher uses what is known as “Diversified” technique. This technique allows the doctor to take into consideration that no single body is different and allows her to adapt to each patient’s needs accordingly. She refers to her exact technique as the “Gallagher” technique.

Will I get adjusted on the first visit?

Generally speaking, no. The first visit is a chance for the patient and the doctor to get to know each other. The main focus on the first visit is to assess the healthcare needs of the patient. Patients that come in with severe conditions will most likely be treated the same day if circumstances are such that require immediate attention.

What are the office hours?

Office hours are Monday through Friday, 10am to 6:30pm. We are closed daily from 2pm-3pm for lunch.
